Your walks and dog-care records are stored on your device and, where enabled, in your own iCloud account. Pawprints uses RevenueCat and ZeroSettle for subscription analytics, and does not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Pawprints is an iOS app built by Ryan Elliott. It records your dog's walks, maps your adventures, and helps you manage everyday care.
Pawprints uses Apple's CloudKit to sync eligible app records through your private iCloud database. Household records you choose to share are available to invited participants through Apple's sharing services.
The home privacy area you mark stays on that device and is used to hide that area from maps you share. When you export or share content yourself, your chosen recipients and services receive that content.
If you put a dog on the Top Dogs boards, Pawprints sends our leaderboard server, hosted by Render in the United States, the name and title you choose for that dog. If you choose to show a photo of that dog on the boards, Pawprints also sends a small copy of that one photo, resized and with its location and other metadata removed. Visits are published when a walk is saved: for each walk that enters a park, Pawprints sends the park, the date, the minutes inside the park, and which small areas (about 30 m squares) of the park the walk crossed.
Other Pawprints users can see your dog's chosen name and title, which parks it visits, how many days it visited each park and how many minutes, which spots inside a park it leads (squares of about 30 m), and the crowns it holds, and its board photo if you chose to show one. A park's page also shows which days of the week that park is busiest, counted across the dogs on its board, so at a park with only one dog that pattern is that dog's. They never see your other photos, routes, exact times, your name or your family.
You can hide any park once it appears in your Boards settings, change the name, change or remove the photo, leave the boards, or delete the board data in Settings.
To keep your boards across your devices without a login, the server issues a random secret that Pawprints stores in your private iCloud and Keychain. The server stores only a one-way hash of it. This household record is created when the app is first used with a dog and an iCloud account, even if you never join Top Dogs.
If you report a dog, the report and any note you write are stored, and the note is emailed to the developer through our email provider, Resend, so it can be reviewed. Reports are kept for moderation after either party deletes their data. Blocks are stored with your household until you unblock or delete your data.
Park outlines come from OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database License; see Pawprints park data. To show parks, Pawprints asks the server for parks in the map area you are viewing. These requests do not include an account identifier.
The leaderboard server and its database are hosted by Render in the United States. Render and our hosting providers keep backups for a limited period.
Apple handles purchases and payment details through the App Store. Pawprints uses Apple's StoreKit to determine subscription access. We do not receive your card number or Apple Account password, and the app does not offer a third-party web checkout.
RevenueCat and ZeroSettle receive subscription and transaction information, including product identifiers, purchase history, trial, renewal, cancellation, refund and entitlement status. We use these services to understand subscription revenue and customer history and to validate subscription transactions.
To associate purchases across your devices, Pawprints sends these providers an opaque identifier supplied by CloudKit for your iCloud account (the iCloud user record name, which is used as the app user id there). RevenueCat may initially use its own anonymous identifier before that account identifier is available. These identifiers can link purchase records to the same customer; they are not your email address or advertising identifier. Pawprints does not supply these providers with your name, email, dog profiles, photos, walk routes, care records or Apple Health data.
Requests also include technical context needed by the services, such as SDK or app version, platform and App Store storefront. Like other online services, the providers receive your IP address and may retain operational and security logs. Subscription records and analytics are available to us through their dashboards.

Pawprints uses iCloud / CloudKit for eligible record sync and sharing, MapKit for maps, Apple Health for optional workout access, and the App Store for purchases. These Apple services are also subject to Apple's privacy policy.
Pawprints requests While Using the App location permission to show your location and record walk routes. During an active recording, location updates can continue while the app is in the background or the screen is locked. Pawprints does not request Always location permission.
With your permission, Pawprints reads walking, running, hiking and cycling workouts and their routes from Apple Health, and saves walks you record in Pawprints to Apple Health. You can manage or revoke access in the Health app or system settings.
Workouts, routes and step counts imported from Apple Health are stored only on this device, are excluded from iCloud sync and device backup, and are not shared with your household or any server. They are never sent to RevenueCat or ZeroSettle, used for advertising or sold.
If you used an earlier version of Pawprints, copies of imported Health records may remain in your private iCloud. You can erase them in Settings, Your data, Delete account and data.
You can take photos or select individual photos using Apple's photo picker. Pawprints receives the photos you choose; it does not need unrestricted access to your photo library. If you grant permission, photos taken in the app can also be saved to your library. Photos attached to eligible app records may sync or be shared with your household. A photo you choose to show on the Top Dogs boards is visible to other Pawprints users, as described above.
Care reminders are scheduled locally on your device.
Pawprints does not display ads, use advertising identifiers, sell personal data, or combine your data with data from other companies' apps or websites for targeted advertising. Subscription analytics described above are the app's third-party analytics integration.
You can manage records within the app and control permissions in system settings. Removing the app removes its local data but does not automatically remove records already stored in iCloud, Apple Health, or subscription providers. Manage iCloud storage through Settings › your name › iCloud, and Apple Health records in the Health app. Other household members or recipients may retain copies of content you shared.
Leaderboard data is kept while your dog is on the boards. A board photo is deleted from the server when you remove it or take the dog off the boards. It is deleted when you delete the board data or your account in Settings, Your data, Delete account and data, which also removes your Pawprints data from this device and iCloud and deletes your household on the leaderboard server. Reports that name a dog, and anonymized reports a person filed, are kept for moderation. Hosting providers keep backups for a limited period.
For access, correction or deletion requests concerning subscription-provider records, contact us below so we can coordinate with the providers and verify the relevant records. Retention depends on the purpose of processing and any legal, accounting, fraud-prevention or dispute-resolution requirements. Deleting app data does not cancel an App Store subscription; manage subscriptions through your Apple Account settings.
If you email support, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send, and use it to respond to your request. Avoid including sensitive information that is not needed for support.
Pawprints is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
