Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 August 2026

Pawprints has no servers of its own. There is no Pawprints account, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party code in the app. Your data lives on your device and in your own iCloud account, where I cannot reach it.

Who this is

Pawprints is an iOS app built by Ryan Elliott. It records your dog's walks and turns them into a map you keep.

What Pawprints stores

Everything you enter, and nothing you don't:

Where it goes

Into your own iCloud account, through Apple's CloudKit, in your private database. I have no access to it and no ability to read it. Nothing is stored in a public database, and nothing is sent to any server I control — because there isn't one.

If you invite someone into your household, that household's data is shared with them through Apple's own sharing, by invitation link only. It is never publicly discoverable, and you can stop sharing at any time.

The area you mark as home stays on the device you marked it on, and is used to hide that area from maps you share.

Apple services Pawprints uses

Location

Pawprints asks only for "While Using the App" location — never "Always". It records your position while a walk is being recorded, to draw the route and fill in the map.

It does not monitor regions, significant location changes, or visits. It has no ability to track you when you are not recording a walk.

Health data

With your permission, Pawprints reads walks, runs, hikes and rides recorded by other apps so they aren't missing from your atlas, and can save your Pawprints walks back to Apple Health as workouts.

Health data is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared with any third party. When you import a workout, the resulting walk record — its distance, duration and route — is stored in Pawprints and syncs with the rest of your atlas through your own iCloud account.

Photos and camera

Photos you take in Pawprints are attached to the walk and, if you allow it, also saved to your photo library. Pawprints does not read your existing photo library.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled on your device. No notification content is sent anywhere.

What Pawprints does not do

Deleting your data

Deleting the app removes everything stored on the device. To remove what's in iCloud, use Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage on your iPhone — or write to me and I'll walk you through it.

Children's privacy

Pawprints is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
